Delta LIDAR - Joel Dudas

CA Department of Water Resources just received new LiDAR data covering the Sacramento Delta region on two hard drives.  The data cover approximately 1,000,000 acres (1,600 square miles).  Data are in several different formats (*.LAS etc).  DWR is holding two data seminars next week – Wednesday and Friday.  Contact Joel if interested; he can also set up additional workshops if needed.   

Brenda Jones at EROS asked for a copy of the data.

USGS post-burn data collection - data will be available to the public. Data collected last week.

   Gerald Bawdin collected ground based LIDAR for the area

   Aerial lidar acquisition for (part of ) 2005 Day fire (which includes part of the 2007 Ranch fire) and the Canyon fire currently in processing

   Hyperspectral (HyMap) for Witch, Harris, and Poomacha - will be available for free.

FRAP - legislation in place to map State Responsibility Areas - wildlands that are not incorporated and not federal lands.

Discussion:

  Post fire mapping response to FEMA should be coordinated within the state.

  Local requests - how many came in, how did they get to federal coordinators?

  Training should be provided for post-fire response as well, beyond response & suppression activities.

  When the call came in to provide aid, several agencies stepped up including Dept. of Conservation, Dept. of Water Resources, Dept. of Parks & Recreation, CERES Program, and Dept. of Fish & Game.  Folks from F&G stepped up; 1/2 FTE was provided.People support system works because folks converge and get to work.

     Need for current imagery and transportation data – these were critical.
