URISA – University of Washington – Harold Fienberg (DOC) – Recovery effort for New Orleans combined effort. CASIL is offering disk space. Contact Harold if you have questions.

Coastal Sediment Efforts – Corps of Engineers, Resources Agency, and Boating & Waterways Workgroup looking at costal sedimentation issues. They need help and are looking for assistance. Contract Ray McDowell for more information.

Bill Kaiser – moving from USGS to USFS, Portland , OR . This is Bill’s last meeting with us…

Delta LIDAR – by Bill Kaiser for Gary Darling – this is being flown this weekend!!

NHD Managers Session on Wednesday still has open seats – contact Carol if you have additional attendees. All hands on classes are full and the response was excellent! We could do more classes, but will do classes down south first. Contact Carol with your requests and interest!

USGS updates – Carol Ostergren, Bill Kaiser

DEM progress – see notes on the web site.

NHD progress – see notes on the web site.

Urban Area Imagery – see notes on the web site. First round of coverage is done. Carol is working with counties to see what can be done for the next round.

NAIP progress – almost done – 15:1 compressions are showing up. There is some confusion due to incomplete counties. Ray McDowell is working with USDA on this effort. Color-InfraRed (CIR) response has been very light. If you are interested in this contact Ray. Looking for mass DVD creation and QA/QC assistance – if you have this contact Ray. Being optimistic by saying early spring – in light of the track record of previous efforts this could be still coming in over the summer.

Quads on the Mexico side of the border – first set of quads along the border are paid for, but the second set are not being processed – Carol is working with the border patrol and others to get this completed. There are other image efforts in the same area - Carol is working on trying to get these made available to the public as well.

Training Opportunities/Workshop Status – see presentation.

NHD – response was wonderful – planning on more! IDEA – check to see if ESRI could include this on the Virtual Campus?

GOS2 training – planning this training as well.

Other training – plans are developing for more – see presentation!

GOS2 – is up and running – go visit the web site and register

NSDI Pacific Northwest Activities and Integrative Efforts. – Vicki Lukas – Pacific Nowthwest Regional Geospatial Information Council (PNW RGIC) – see the presentation on the web site!  Vicki discussed the different activities with each of the states, how they are organized and what they are providing for services. See presentation:

FGC3-CMC2_20050909_Lukas_PNW_RGIC_0905.ppt

National Geographic Projects Office (NGPO) - Vicki Lukas – strategic geospatial investments with these resources. Looking at matching these efforts with state strategic plans. Alignment of priorities of NGPO with statewide plans. NSDI Partnership Office (Carol is part of this!) more information coming at the upcoming California GIS Council meeting. Relates to the FGDC 50 States Initiative (released Feb 28, 2005 ) See presentation: FGC3-CMC2_20050909_Lukas_GIS_for_the_Nation-ESRI_fgc3_05.ppt

NSDI Vision – Vicki Lukas – see presentation on line. GIS for the Nation – develop a modern, multi-purpose GIS for the nation. Partnerships, Resources/Incentives, and Implementation through Best Practices. Table listing 3 different models – interesting read – see presentation.

See presentation: FGC3-CMC2_20050909_Lukas_MOU_long_term_plans.ppt

Bluebook discussion – for more see web site – http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=downloads.dataModels.filteredGateway&dmid=42

State Strategy & Updates – John Ellison – state is trying to keep the GIS Council going and focusing on community. Challenges include keeping the council active – local and regional levels are active, just want to bubble this up. CAP Grant Releasing a survey on Framework datasets – will be asking the FGC3/CMC2 and CGIA to test out the survey before sending this out to the rest of the GIS community. Working with Clark Kelso (CA CIO) to develop a statewide enterprise architecture including geospatial infrastructure. GIO would be a deputy director and report to the CIO. State CIO is a cabinet officer.

California Geospatial Workshop at ESRI - Ray McDowell – DRAFT document handed out and discussed at the ESRI Conference. We have some limited funds to do outreach and workshops. Looking for places to conduct these workshops and start the process toward a DRAFT geospatial effort in the state of California . See web site to see this document.  The stat is working on a draft strategic plan for California – this is being done on a voluntary basis. These efforts will be distributed through a web site along with the implementation and recommendations. More to come…

Biogeographic Information and Observation System (BIOS) - Tom Lupo - http://bios.dfg.ca.gov/ - presentation on the http://fgc3.wr.usgs.gov web site. Strategy for managing biological and spatial information and to facilitate sharing of that information within DFG and with our conservation partners. All work efforts are being handled internally within the department. Password protected. Data sharing agreements between DFG and data providers.

Round Table – All

Paul Veisze – Standards and efforts toward these.

Robert Yoha –  GIS statewide contract is not specifying format or standards at this time.

Tim McMonagle, Census – 2004 2nd edition TIGER files have been posted. There are 20 CA counties that have been through the positional enhancement. See this at: http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/tiger2004se/tl04cty.txt

Status maps available on line at:  Redistricting program is starting up – contracting with the states to get designated teams. State legislative districts will be included in the future versions of TIGER. Additional web sites of interest:

http://ftp2.census.gov/geo/maps/mtaip_status - MAF/Tiger Accuracy Improvement Project status maps

http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/tiger2004se/tgr2004se.html - 2004 Second Edition TIGER/Line files page. Has links to download files, technical documentation, and general metadata. County based metadata is included as part of each compressed TIGER/Line file.

http://www.census.gove/geo/www/tiger/tiger2004/se/tl04cty.txt - List of spatially enhanced counties available.

Robert Yoha – DOC went through a management exercise – 22 data sets that will be publicly viewable. Earthquakes & Landslides, Land Conservation, etc. Some of them live linked, some FTP, some go through contact & agreements. Should be out soon!

Carol Ostergren – CGIA efforts – web site soon, strategic goals identified, join CGIA if you have not!!

Vicki Lukas – LIDAR – USGS contracts can get LIDAR for much cheaper costs than use to be. About 50% cheaper than what you get privately. The specifications may not meet the standards that some are used to. Contact Carol for further info.

Bill Perry – trying to get data into BIOS – many efforts under way, including aerial surveys, etc.

Richard – USFS – statewide OHV still moving ahead. Big internal project to gather up forest data and do edge-matching effort! Massive effort under way. Vallejo jobs currently open.

Scott – NRCS – will be working with folks on collaborative efforts.

Bill K. – wraping up projects. Combining census with hazards with parcel data and what populations are exposed, minorities, etc. Working with ESRI on a geoprocessing model that should be available to everyone. Would like to incorporate the HAZUS output.

Donna – EPA Storet Legacy data – can download data by counties.

Chuck J. – reflective commentary….”we’ve come so far….”

Lorri – Watershed Boundary Delineation (WBD) – July efforts and meeting were a success

Marti I. San Joaquin height mod project – 373 points being added to the database. Geoid model is pretty good! Looking at land subsidence from last measure. Northern California 737 stations – Sacramento to the border, every state highway, height mod adjustment – also being added to the database. Retrieval of height mod is 2 cm or better from the NGS web site – you need to scroll down to get to the best data. East-West project under way. Plate Boundary Observatory is in Alaska now and will be back in the states later. Coastline initiatives – none exist at this time.

QUESTION – what is the current status of the BLM Geographic Coordinates Data Base? We will work on getting a speaker
