The California Geographic Information Association (CGIA) is partnering with the US Geological Survey (USGS), the California Resources Agency and the California GIS Council to commission a highly qualified contractor to develop an Orthoimagery and Digital Elevation Data Business Needs Assessment and Best Practices Report for the State of California. This area of the FGC3 website provides a repository for consultant and other interested member of the GIS community to find imagery-related information.

The California GIS Council has identified a need to develop business plans for key framework datasets that could create action strategies for integrating high resolution orthoimagery and digital elevation data with a statewide parcel dataset and other framework datasets. These tasks support the Council’s next steps, which include developing strategic plans for integrative geospatial framework data development, cataloging, providing web mapping services, and supporting the development of enterprise GIS architecture for the State of California. This report will be a key component of the California Spatial Data Infrastructure and hopefully provides a template for similar reports for other geospatial framework data for the State. The information gained from this project will be instrumental in proceeding with the California Spatial Data Infrastructure effort.

The resultant report prepared for this project should help guide local, state, federal, and regional agencies in identifying options for cooperatively acquiring and procuring digital orthoimagery and digital elevation data. The final report will be published on the CGIA and State GIS Council’s websites and will become a theme-specific piece of the Strategic Plan for the development of the California Spatial Data Infrastructure.
